There’s a misconception that apprentices cost employers money. But recent research by BCITO shows an apprentice is well worth the investment; for every $1 spent on training, the business will benefit by an average of $4.70 in increased profit for up to 10 years.

Once an employee has demonstrated they’re an asset to their employer, moving into an apprenticeship is a win-win. The trainee works towards their qualification, while the employer benefits from their employee’s growing skills and ability.

We don’t yet know the outcome of New Zealand’s election. But we do know the political debates highlighted the need for a skilled trades workforce, and this will inform the future government. To help fill the skills gap, MPTT’s focus is on making sure our trainees are work ready, from writing a great CV right through to taking the step into an apprenticeship.
