Navigators

Navigators coach our trainees every step of the way to prepare them for work and help them become leaders in their chosen trade. Navigators are also independent of training organisations and can help employers find a trustworthy employee.

Industry knowledge

Navigators have knowledge of the trades industry and know what employers are looking for in an employee. They work with trainees to ensure they’re ready for life on the job, and support them as they settle into work.

Cultural understanding

With knowledge of Māori and Pasifika cultures, our Navigators are well placed to understand trainees’ backgrounds and connect with them personally. Navigators can then help employers who want to create social change by having a workforce that reflects the community.

Māori and Pasifika have an innate understanding of how we authentically view the world. This means our Māori and Pasifika navigators are able to communicate, understand, have empathy with, and show support to our tauira in a way that they, the tauira, feel comfortable and can relate to.

Ongoing coaching

Navigators support trainees from when they start their course to after they’re employed. That means MPTT employees get ongoing coaching and financial support to help them reach their goals, at no cost to their employer.

With MPTT, somebody is there to help you navigate through the journey and make it easier. It’s about that whānau environment, coming under the umbrella of that aroha, manaaki and āwhina. It’s just knowing we’re going to be there for them. It takes away that dark shaded area that’s always in the back of a student’s mind, wondering what getting qualified is actually going to look like.”
